Nobody is too old for Scalextrics!
After finding some old footage I took of one rainy saturday I spent with my good friend Lewis when we made a massive Scalextric track in his lounge, I decided the video I shot of an amazing drift was too good to not do something with.
I started off by adding some time re mapping and also pixel motion to blend the frames together. This prevents the footage from looking stuttery when in slow motion. This method effectively makes up the frames in between in order to smooth out the motion.
After doing this simple step I was thoroughly engaged in making this look epic. So I started with some colour correction, and a little bit of zoom. It now started looking great. But it was missing something...
I figured "what the hell" and went all out by tracking each headlight individually and applying a lens flare to each one. I animated the brightness over time to give it more of a natural look. Including the bit where the car is looking straight at the camera and the lights get very bright for a moment.
Once I got this point I knew it was almost complete but it was missing that cherry on the top. And the cherry turned out to be streaky trials coming from the lights. Very influenced by Ridge Racer I started creating this effect by utilizing the Trapcode Particular Plugin, and the final version is what you see here!
The audio design was done by my friend Lewis.
